From 1999 to 2005, ARBC has worked with a church in the
Invivienda community of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic helping
Pastor Marthyn and his church build a building and minister
to their community. We served under the direction of
retired International Mission Board
Missionaries Paul & Peggy Siebenmann.
Franklin Rodriguez, one of the Dominican men that we had
worked with in Santo Domingo, felt God calling him to be a
missionary in the Barahona area. The small town of Barahona is
about 3 hours southwest of Santo Domingo and one hour east of the
Haiti border. In early 2007, Pastor Franklin and
his new wife, Benita, moved to Barahona and invited us to help
him the following summer with his work there.
Since the first trip to Barahona in 2007, each summer our
ministries have included:
- Two church services one meeting in a home and one meeting
under trees in a fishing community
- A medical
clinic staffed by a Dominican cardiologist, pediatrician &
dentists
- Bible studies
- Children's activities
- Block parties
- Caricatures
- Couples
banquet
- Firemen's breakfast
- Businessmen's luncheon
- Re-tining homes
- Building walls and roofs around latrines
- Painting homes and the baseball dugout
- Sewing dresses and shorts for the children
- Youth rallies that include a scavenger hunt
- Conducting baseball, basketball & volleyball clinics
